eigentlich sollte man allen Friseuren, die sich "Modefriseur" nennen, die Worte "aus der" vor den Namen setzen // freelancers in NY are serious about calling their favorite coffee shop 'office' and the customer next to them 'co-worker' // even German candies taste different in the States, Nutella for example is made of skim milk and tastes like crap // gumboots are the latest thing in NYC fashion, the hippest model goes for $120 and girls are crazy about them // Las Vegas is like Times Square, just as big as a city and a little more crazy // since 9/11 there are regular announcements in the subway to always stay alert - that feels strange // winter in NYC is extremely cold and temperatures change within a day from -10°C to 10°C // people usually don't have washing mashines here so laundromats are all over the place // alcoholic beverages are insanely expensive here - a beer is between 5 and 8 Dollars at least // Valentine's day isn't only for your valentine in the States, people write cards to anyone they like // some do, but most people don't move to NYC for lifestyle reasons but for job-opportunities, i.e. in the creative area // German milk cartons are too small, one gallon of milk is perfectly right // Americans don't use many signs to offer directions, they prefer getting lost every once in a while // many standards in Germany are very high // one in a thousand examples is the public winterservice that makes pedestrian walks accessible very fast // another example is the cleaness of public places, restrooms and official buildings // Americans still use checks for most regular payings like rent, insurance etc // the food over here makes my skin worse // even Americans as a nation have self-doubts // living abroad helps you getting to know your own country // many stereotypes about Germans are mostly true: in comparison we´re perfectionists, over-organized and good engineers // public bathrooms in Germany are in a very good shape // commuters in NYC´s subways and busses are as silent as those in Germany // there are no seperate bathrooms for women and men in the States // American toilets are always full of water which has some serios disadvantages // the service in German restaurants is very good // there´s always the sound of police sirens in NYC // Brooklyn is the real New York // black guys love singing in the subway // NYC is very european // grocery shopping is twice as expensive as in Germany // electricity isn´t that stable here // Americans make no secret out of their political preference // in many neighborhoods of NYC white people are the absolut minority // over here rich poeple are richer and poor people are poorer // things are more extrem in the States // Americans use the horns of their cars pretty often // it´s hard to find a McCain supporter in NY // New Yorkers have way more electronic devices and gadgets than Germans do // subways drive 24 hours a day // we´re definately spending too much money in cafés // there are definitaly too many nice cafés in NY // they always serve free iced-water in restaurants and bars // many Americans don´t have health insurance // there´s no smog in Manhatten because of the rivers around the city //
